In our final evaluation series, we look at more than just highlight film as we evaluate athletic ability and future potential.
We work on a 1-to-5 scale in each area with five being the highest grade a prospect can receive.
SPARTAN DIGEST GRADING SCALE
Prospect needs major work in area: = 1
Prospect rough on the edges in area: = 2
Prospect is where he should be in area: = 3
Prospect shows major promise in area: = 4
Prospect is above average in area: = 5
HEIGHT, WEIGHT & SPEED
In the Spartans defensive scheme Deon Drake will have no problem at his listed 6-foot-1, 210-pounds at linebacker. Speed is not a question when you watch Drake on the field as he should be a solid 4.6 forty guy. Grade: 3
QUICKNESS, AGILITY & BALANCE
This is the area we really like what Drake shows on the field as we see a player capable of playing on both sides of the ball in high school with above average agility and balance and solid quickness. Grade: 4
STRENGTH, EXPLOSION & BODY FLEXIBILTY
Drake is solid in his overall flexibility with great recoil in his lower and upper body. This gives him great explosion and power to go with his compact build that gives him his natural brute strength. Grade: 4
ON FIELD FUTURE PROJECTIONS
There are areas of work needed to any prep player when they get to the college level and Drake is no different. In high school Drake often looked for the big hit, while that is good, he now will need to play within the defensive scheme to become a major contributor. The tools are there for Drake to become a solid player at the college level continuing to give MSU depth at the position. Grade: 3
