Signing Day Capsule: Brian Allen

Following his brother's footsteps, Allen brings toughness to East Lansing and the experiences of playing in multiple all-star events before and after his senior season.

Brian Allen – Hinsdale (Ill.) Central center

Height, weight: 6-foot-1, 287 pounds

Commitment date: April 20, 2013

Why Michigan State: "I would have to say the people. I've been to close to 30 schools throughout the recruiting process and Michigan State has some pretty awesome facilities. The eye candy is cool, but it's the people and knowing that Coach D has a good heart and is in it for all the right reasons."

The Skinny

Allen was one of the more decorated Michigan State commitments in the 2014 class. He took part in The Opening in Oregon before his senior season and was an Army All-American game participant following the season. He also earned Illinois Class 8A first-team all-state honors.

Allen continues to impress despite lacking in the size department, but that makes him not much different than his brother, Jack, who has contributed early in his career at Michigan State.

Also like his brother, Allen brings a wrestling background and a toughness to his play. He uses leverage and wins blocks by driving defenders downfield and it really all comes back to toughness.

Allen committed at the spring game to get that day started and was joined by Enoch Smith later that day to solidify a strong class from Illinois for Michigan State.

Allen likely will redshirt to bulk up and adapt to the college game, but could contribute early like his brother did as he started as a redshirt freshman.
