Signing Day Capsule: Chase Gianacakos

St. Charles (Ill.) North offensive tackle part of an offensive line class that pads MSU's numbers at the top position of need.

Chase Gianacakos – St. Charles (Ill.) North offensive tackle

Height, weight: 6-foot-6, 280 pounds

Commitment date: April 1, 2013

Why Michigan State: From first time stepped on campus, I felt a connection with strength coach, academics, obviously the offensive line coach, Coach Staten, Coach Dantonio, and it felt like a great fit. I felt I'd grow as a person there and as a football player as well."

The Skinny

Gianacakos was a first-team all-state selection in Illinois for Class 7A and took part in the Offense-Defense Bowl with fellow MSU commit Gerald Owens. Committing early – and interestingly on April Fool's Day – Gianacakos was the first out-of-state commitment for the Spartans and was followed by a trio of Illinois high school standouts.

Gianacakos brings an interesting background with him, having grown up around the world and living in places like Shanghai, China, and throughout Europe. Because of that, he didn't play football until his freshman year of high school.

He is a natural build for the tackle spot and could be a nice future right tackle with the size and frame he possesses. A redshirt year is all but a guarantee for offensive lineman and Gianacakos certainly is headed that way.
