Signing Day Capsule: Montez Sweat

Georgia defensive end brings some unknown to the Michigan State class, a surprising unknown in a solid class.

Montez Sweat – Stone Mountain (Ga.) Stephenson tight end

Height, weight: 6-foot-6, 225 pounds

Commitment date: December 5, 2013

Why Michigan State: "I picked Michigan State because I feel like I'm coming in with one of the best recruiting classes of 2014. On my official they made me feel like family. MSU is the best team in the Big 10 and I wanted to make myself apart of it. Their education is also very great as well."

The Skinny

Normally, Michigan State's class features a few players that are surprises and somewhat under-the-radar. Sweat is as close as there is to an unknown in Michigan State's class in 2014.

Not active in camps or big on getting highlights out, Sweat still accumulated offers and committed to Vanderbilt early in the process. Michigan State changed that and flipped him to join their class.

Sweat was recruited to come in and be a rangy defensive end for the Spartans. He played a lot of tight end in high school, but Michigan State sees the size and ability to add to his frame that makes him an interesting prospect.

He likely will redshirt to bulk up to the 250-pound range and gain the knowledge of the defense.
