Final Evaluation: Nick Padla

National Signing Day is here and Spartan Digest gives our final evaluations on the members of the 2014 Michigan State recruiting class. This is not a star ranking, but a look at a prospects overall physical ability and on field ability.

The secret to the success Michigan State has enjoyed since Mark Dantonio took over the Spartans football programs has been finding athletes who fit their style of play and by developing players who have yet to reach their full potential.

In our final evaluation series, we look at more than just highlight film as we evaluate athletic ability and future potential.

We work on a 1-to-5 scale in each area with five being the highest grade a prospect can receive.

SPARTAN DIGEST GRADING SCALE

Prospect needs major work in area: = 1
Prospect rough on the edges in area: = 2
Prospect is where he should be in area: = 3
Prospect shows major promise in area: = 4
Prospect is above average in area: = 5

HEIGHT, WEIGHT & SPEED

Nick Padla has the frame to become a high level offensive lineman at the college level. He'll need to add weight but should have no problem in doing so. While we don't look at offensive linemen for their speed, he's very athletic and has above average feet for his size. Grade: 3

QUICKNESS, AGILITY & BALANCE

Here is what caught the attention of college coaches this past summer at several camps. Padla shows good quickness with the ability to reach second level defenders and has solid balance to set up in a power stance while keeping the ability to move laterally or forward. Grade: 4

STRENGTH, EXPLOSION & BODY FLEXIBILTY

A natural bender and overall solid flexibility, Padla shows good lower body explosion that once added with more physical strength will make him explosive when he comes out of his stance. Grade: 4

ON FIELD FUTURE PROJECTIONS

There is some work needed as Padla adjust to the level of competition he'll see at the college level. However, we feel once he gets a year in the program he should continue showing solid progress towards getting playing time. All the tools are there for Padla to be an offensive tackle and is a prospect Spartan fans should keep an eye on going forward. Grade: 3
