David Dowell Talks Interest in Michigan State

Sunday could be the next steps needed for David Dowell to earn an offer from Michigan State. The Ohio prospect talks about his interest in the Spartans and why he's extremely high on what Mark Dantonio and his staff are building in East Lansing.

Much like his brother Andrew, David Dowell is extremely high on his interest in earning a scholarship offer from Michigan State. One reason for the high interest comes from the early relationship he's building with assistant coach Jim Bollman.

"I have a lot of interest in Michigan State," said Dowell. "I've been talking with Coach Bollman for about a year now as I attended their camp last summer. So I'm kind of familiar with the program a little bit and look forward to going up there and strengthening the relationship with the coaching staff and see more of the campus."

Capable of playing on either side of the ball, Dowell is unsure of how the Spartans see him on the field.

"I'm not exactly sure what they are recruiting me as," he said. "However, an offer would mean a lot to me as they are coming off a Rose Bowl win and will be a Top 10 or Top 15 team going into next season.

"So things are on the up at Michigan State."

If the Spartans would look at Dowell on the defensive side of the ball, he feels he could come in with an early understanding of the programs defense.

"I can see myself in their defense," stressed Dowell. "Our defense at Lakewood (Ohio) St. Ed's is modeled after Michigan State's defense. Coach (Mike) Tressel came to our school and our defensive coordinator, who is also our safeties coach, talked with him a long time about how they run their defense. So we try and model our defense after them."
