Stump visits MSU after big week of offers

Lakewood (Ohio) St Edward wide receiver checks out East Lansing after picking up first four offers in the previous week. He talks Michigan State and where his next stops will be.

A week from Sunday, Alex Stump didn't have any scholarship offer.

Seven days later, the Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward wide receiver had four offers and was sitting courtside at Michigan State for a junior day.

"I was just talking to my dad last night and it's crazy," he said. "Last Sunday I had no offers and now this Sunday we were visiting Michigan State, so it's pretty crazy.

"I got all of them last week. They call kind of came in a row each day last week."

Cincinnati, Western Michigan, Toledo and James Madison all extended scholarship offers to the 6-foot-3, 190-pound receiver.

He already had visited Cincinnati and Toledo, but the visit to East Lansing was his first to see the Spartans.

"I had a great time," he said. "I was blown away by the facilities, the weight room and the field and all the trophies they had displayed."

Stump previously had spoken with Michigan State coach Jim Bollman at St Edward, but looked forward to some increased interest following the visit.

"I talked to Coach (Nick) Ruffing yesterday, it was kind of small talk, but he said they had watched my film and they were impressed and want to keep in touch," he said. "Coach Bollman said the same thing, so hopefully we can have more contact coming up."

If an offer from the Spartans comes down the road, though, he said it definitely will be a big deal.

"It doesn't get much better than Michigan State," he said.

Next up for Stump is a visit to Cincinnati, which he visited during the season.

"I also am probably going to go and visit Western Michigan soon," he said. "I want to get to Bowling Green. After that, it's still kind open and I'm talking to coaches and nothing's set yet."
