East Grand Rapids's Mikey Roth might be a quarterback, but that doesn't mean he doesn't like hitting people – just in a different sport.
The junior quarterback is gearing up for lacrosse season this spring as the Pioneers look to make another long state playoffs run.
"Not many people think that of quarterbacks, but I love the physical part of lacrosse," he said.
Roth also is lining up junior day visits for the spring and took one to Michigan State last weekend.
"The visit went great," he said. "I sat the entire time with Coach (Mark) Staten. We met him over at the football facility and he drove me and my dad over to the game.
"We sat with him there and had nice chats with him and really enjoyed the atmosphere."
The coaches told him they want to see him at camp after he wasn't able to make it last year.
He also recently visited Purdue for a junior day and said it went well.
"I really like the campus, Coach (Kevin) Sherman is my recruiting coach and I had a nice talk with him and spent most of the day with him.
"They have great facilities and I really like the job that they are doing over there."
Next on tap is a visit to Western Michigan and some possible visits to Ivy League schools.
"I've been invited to a couple of Ivy Leagues. Penn, Princeton and Cornell and I'm also talking to a number of other Ivy Leagues," he said.
Then Roth will be hitting the camp circuit for the final time.
"It's pretty crazy," he said. "I've been doing it for five years and it will be the last one. I will be seeing if I can go up somewhere and impress coaches and pick up some offers. …
"I'm going to camp at Harvard, Penn and Yale, then Michigan State and Purdue. I'm not quite sure of others yet, but I will do Sound Mind Sound Body."
