Michigan State did not make a field goal in the final 4:29 as Ohio State took the lead with 37 seconds left to win 69-67 on Sunday.
The Spartans held a lead from the 16:56 mark of the second half until an Amir Williams free throw gave the Buckeyes the lead 68-67.
Gary Harris took a rebound as Sam Thompson missed two free throws to try an seal the game, but Harris missed a stepback jumper over Aaron Craft just before the buzzer.
The Spartans were 0 of 4 from the field with three turnovers in the final 4:29. For the third straight game the Spartans had 16 turnovers.
Harris had 12 second-half points to fuel MSU to the lead, but Adreian Payne again came up big in Columbus.
After having 15 points as a sophomore then 15 rebounds as a junior, the Dayton, Ohio, native had 23 points and eight rebounds in his final game at Ohio State.
The loss set Michigan State as the No. 3 seed in this week's Big Ten Tournament. The Spartans will meet the winner of Iowa and Northwestern at 9:30 p.m. Friday.
