Bilal sees "great opportunity" at MSU

Indianapolis Ben Davis linebacker adds an offer from the Spartans to his list Wednesday. He talks about Michigan State and what he knows about the school.

The most recent Indianapolis (Ind.) Ben Davis to Michigan State connection was a great success with safety Isaiah Lewis.

The Spartans are hoping that junior linebacker Asmar Bilal could be a similar success, so they extended him a scholarship offer Wednesday.

"I was called down to my coaches' office and he called Coach (Mark) Dantonio and he told me they were offering me a scholarship," Bilal said.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound linebacker said he was naturally excited to add Michigan State to his offer list, which already includes Wisconsin, Northwestern, Iowa and others.

"I was just excited that a school such as Michigan State was able to offer me because they have a BD alumni (Lewis) there," he said. "It was just special and it's a great opportunity."

He said he hasn't met Lewis before, but has seen him around Ben Davis. He also said he knows Michigan State had a good season last year.

"I don't really know much about their academics, but I know they have a great football team and they won the Rose Bowl," he said. "They have a very dynamic defense, but that's it."

The academics are something he said matters a lot to him in his recruitment.

"It's academics in general," he said. "I haven't really decided upon a major yet, but it's just something that I really look at as well."

Bilal said he will try to make a visit to East Lansing in the spring.
