USC redshirt sophomore spent his freshman season on the sideline and his second year at USC was quickly lost after the first two games of the season, when Banner discovered he needed to have surgery on both his left and right hip to correct a hip impingements he's had since birth.
Banner told Scout during the 2013 season the pain on both sides had become unbearable and the impingements caused him to lack the necessary flexibility to play football.
As he prepares to enter his third season at USC, Banner is now seeing time with the first team offensive line at right tackle. The position was vacated by three-year starter Kevin Graf since graduation.
"I'm hopeful we can continue to work with Zach Banner," Sarkisian said after week three of spring practices. "I think he is really playing a lot of football for us right now."
Redshirt senior Nathan Guertler began spring practices taking the majority of first team reps.
Due to a significant amount of injuries and multiple offensive linemen who will arrive on campus in the fall, it is unclear who Banner will battle against for the starting position in August.
