Could the Spartans soon offer Williams?

Indianapolis Warren Central safety thinks Michigan State could pull the trigger soon and it would be an offer that keeps the Spartans in the mix when it comes time to make a decision.

Mykelti Williams already holds an impressive offer list, but he feels that another Big Ten school could soon throw its name in the hat.

The Indianapolis Warren Central safety visited Michigan State last Friday and he is getting the feeling the Spartans could pull the trigger soon.

"I talk to them a lot," he said. "I think they are pretty close to offering. They just said it is a process and a long process."

It might take camping this summer, but that is a hoop he likely will jump through if it proves necessary.

"They gave me all the information for the camps and stuff so I will probably get to one of those so they can really evaluate me and what I can do," he said.

Friday served as the 5-foot-11, 190-pound safety's first visit to East Lansing. He had a tour of campus and watched the first spring scrimmage, in addition to getting some face time with head coach Mark Dantonio.

"It made me feel comfortable," he said. "He was just a cool person to talk to and he understands his players and just the way players interact with each other."

It also gave him a chance to see how he could fit in as a Spartan – on either side of the ball.

"I caught on during the meetings to their scheme and what they like to do with their DBs," he said. "I was looking at the offense, too, because I play offense too and I can fit in there.

"I especially fit in at DB."

Up next for Williams could be a visit to Purdue, but this summer he will make a trip to Mississippi – his lone SEC offer at this time.

"I'm supposed to go down to Purdue soon," he said. "I think I'm going down to Ole Miss this summer probably June 9. I will probably have more visits before then but I don't have a set date for them. …

"I have interest from most of the SEC schools, but Ole Miss is the only one that has offered me right now."

He said right now all the schools that have offered – which include Nebraska, Cincinnati, Illinois and Indiana – are even in his mind. He also has no rush in making a decision, but he did say when he it comes down to it, a Michigan State offer would keep the Spartans in it until the end.

"They will be one of my choices when I decide," he said. "They will be one of the big ones I would choose from."
