Willis knows he has a place at MSU

Being recruited as an athlete, the Jackson Lumen Christi standout growing more comfortable in East Lansing after his latest visit. The coaches' message to him remained there is a place for him at Michigan State. He talks more about the visit and when he thinks it will be time to make his decision.

Michigan State was among the first to offer Jackson Lumen Christi's Khari Willis and on Thursday, he made another visit to East Lansing.

It was his first time up for a spring practice, but most of the message remained the same.

"They were just saying that there is a place for me," he said. "They just want to keep building a relationship with their guys and making me feel like it's really the place for me.

"So I was meeting the players and being around the guys and seeing how they operate and welcoming me and it has been a really good program while I'm over there."

He said the comfort level he feels at Michigan State continues to grow with each visit. On Thursday, he spent time watching drills and was impressed by the amount of coaching taking place.

"There was a lot of coaching and a lot of teaching there going on," he said. "That caught my eye how much teaching they were doing. The players, they were playing pretty hard and giving it their all and they stayed after getting in extra work on their own afterward.

"I watched the safeties, the running backs, the receivers, the linebackers – all the skill positions players. It was pretty exciting."

Willis is being recruited as an athlete – he excels at running back and linebacker for the Titans – and said he has no preference. The Spartans are of the same mindset, which is why he watched so many positions on the visit.

"I'm still kind of whatever," he said. "I've been running the ball lately, which I would like to continue to do, but I do like hitting, so it's 50/50."

The comfort level has only continued to grow for Willis with each visit, as he said he is most comfortable at MSU and Western Michigan.

"I haven't really been many other places, but those two make me feel comfortable," he said.

Willis holds offers from Michigan State, Cincinnati, Western Michigan, Central Michigan and Buffalo.

He is hoping to take another visit to Western Michigan in the near future, but also has been hearing from more schools.

"I've been getting a lot of mail from Northwestern and Harvard and a bunch of schools like that," he said.

As for a timeframe, the junior standout is in no rush. He will know when he is ready to make a choice.

"I'm seeing how it goes and I feel like it's not really a decision for me to make," he said. "I kind of feel like the decision will make itself. It will be a pretty obvious choice to make.

"I feel like if it's the right place for me, I'll know."
