Lane interested in MSU's top-ranked defense

Nacogdoches (Texas) cornerback continues blowing up on the recruiting trail as Michigan State recently offered. He talks why he has interest in the Spartans and getting the offer.

A couple months ago, Jaylon Lane had no offers. Now, he has around two dozen and one of the latest was Michigan State.

The Nacogdoches (Texas) cornerback had just seen contact with the Spartans start, but they quickly offered after seeing his film.

"They wanted to know if I was for sure interested and I was like, man, for sure," he said. "They just won the Rose Bowl and have the No. 1 defense in the nation, so for sure I would be interested.

"After that, I talked with Coach (Terry) Samuel who recruits my area and we talked for 15 minutes. It was a great talk and he let me know Michigan State was offering me."

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound corner said the offer meant a lot as it provided an opportunity to be a part of the nation's best defense.

His recruitment took off more and more after he decommitted from Ole Miss in mid-March. That and a couple big camp performances opened up eyes and got him the attention.

"It's an honor," he said. "Michigan State is the last to offer, but Missouri, Notre Dame, Ohio State, LSU, Texas A&M, OU, Oklahoma State all did recently. It's been a lot."

For now, he is just playing it out to see what more comes his way – schools like Alabama are interested. He hopes to put out a top 10 at the end of the school year and said Michigan State could be among them.

"They are the top defense in the country so I am going to definitely consider being a part of that," Lane said. "They will be around that group."

As he looks to narrow that list down, though, he knows what he is looking to find.

"To see what they do with defensive backs and see if I fit right in their scheme and defense," he said. "When I go on a visit, to see if I fit right in an atmosphere and if it all works for me."
