Berghorst back at Michigan State

2017 Zeeland East defensive end meets former players and leaves liking what he saw from the Spartans in Saturday's spring game.

Johnathan Berghorst already paid one visit to Michigan State this spring, but the soon-to-be sophomore was back for the spring game Saturday.

"It was a lot of fun to be back there and see everything again and see some live action again and talk to the coaches again," he said. "It was all good to see."

The Zeeland East defensive end also got to see plenty of what Michigan State has to offer with new facilities being built and meeting former players.

"At halftime, we got to go see the new construction they have for the locker rooms and the upstairs for the recruits," he said. "That looked like it is going to be really cool.

"After the game, there was a big cookout for all the players, coaches, former players. I met Le'Veon Bell and I always was a big fan of him. I met Javon Ringer and I liked him, too. I got a picture with them and it was good to talk with them about their NFL careers. All the Michigan State families were there and I got to talk to coaches again."

In the game, he focused on the players excelling at his positions of defensive end and tight end as Shilique Calhoun and Josiah Price had big games.

"I had gone to their practice and I was in the film room with Shilique Calhoun and I had watched him practice," he said. "So seeing him in the game again and focusing on how he does, that was great to see again and I learned a lot from watching him.

"Josiah Price on offense made some great players. I think he had a few really catches and some good blocks. That was also great to see and I learned a lot from him as well."

Berghorst plans on camping at Michigan State, Notre Dame, Michigan and Sound Mind Sound Body. Western Michigan is another possibility.
