Johnson adds Michigan State to his offer list

Minneapolis De La Salle point guard got the call from Tom Izzo on Monday night letting him know the coach wanted him to be a Spartan. He talks his interest in Michigan State.

Michigan State's coaches were out recruiting in Sacramento last weekend and afterward, extended a scholarship offer to Jarvis Johnson.

The 2015 Minneapolis De La Salle point guard said it was a surprise to get the call from coach Tom Izzo.

"I told him I was really interested in Michigan State and I was kind of surprised knowing I hadn't played as well as I could have in Sacramento," Johnson said. "It showed how much interest he had in me. …

"He said he wanted me to be a Spartan."

The 6-foot point guard said he already had a lot of interest in the Spartans.

"I had a lot of interest in them actually," he said. "I kept in touch with Coach DJ (Stephens) during the season before and I talked to them last summer so I was pretty familiar with them.

"I always watched college basketball, so I saw them on TV a lot this year."

Johnson already was planning an unofficial visit to East Lansing and hopes to take one in the near future. He might choose to make a decision by the end of summer.

He claims no top group and is "pretty open" with no established favorite schools at this time.
