Pettaway sees more interest after SMSB

A couple schools talked with the St. Clair Shores (Mich.) South Lake RB, who holds an offer from Michigan State -- the school he says is on top in his recruitment.

With Michigan State the first to offer 2016 running back Martell Pettaway, he admittedly has the Spartans on top in his recruitment.

When the St. Clair Shores (Mich.) South Lake standout picked up the offer in May, he said it was exciting that it came from a program with so much recent success.

"It made me feel really good like I'm doing something right," he said. "It makes me feel confident that I'll pick up more offers in the future."

He camped at Michigan State early in June and followed it up with a strong performance at Sound Mind Sound Body later in the month, which resulted in conversations with Stanford and Indiana coaches.

"Things went pretty well," he said. "I was good in one on ones and speed drills, one on ones was what it all was going on.

"I was showing the ability to get off the linebacker and get the ball."

A pair of the linebackers he had the chance to go against were familiar faces in Detroit King's Tyriq Thompson and Orchard Lake St. Mary's Daelin Hayes.

"It's a bunch of good rivalries," he said. "It was good to get a win over some of those guys. Daelin came back over and shook my hand. We are still friends."

He hopes to be back on campus at Michigan State soon.
