Five more Spartans on watch lists

Four Michigan State players make their second list, while Jack Conklin makes his first as he is among the candidates for the Outland Trophy

On Monday, Shilique Calhoun, Kurtis Drummond and Trae Waynes were named to the Bednarik Award list as the nation’s top defensive player.

On Wednesday, the same trio was named to another national defensive player of the year watch list: The Bronko Nagurski Award.

Junior offensive lineman Jack Allen also made his second watch list appearance of the week, being listed among the 64 players listed for the Outland Trophy, given to the nation’s top interior lineman. Allen was on the list for the Rimington Award, which was released Monday.

Allen was joined by sophomore offensive tackle Jack Conklin, who started 13 games as a redshirt freshman last season at left tackle for the Spartans.

It also was announced Wednesday that Calhoun and Drummond will be two of Michigan State’s representatives in Chicago for Big Ten Media Days later this month, with the third being quarterback Connor Cook.
