If there is an awards watch list available to him, Shilique Calhoun will be on it.
The Michigan State junior defensive end already has been named to the Bronko Nagurski and Bednarik awards – both awarded to the nation’s best defensive player, and was named to the Lombardi Award watch list Monday.
The award, given to the nation’s top lineman on either side of the ball or linebacker, put 123 players on the watch list.
Calhoun was named the Big Ten’s defensive lineman of the year last season after recording 7.5 sacks and tying for the nation’s lead with three defensive touchdowns.
He was the lone Spartan on the Lombardi watch list.
Other Big Ten players on the list:
Northwestern senior linebacker Chi Chi Ariguzo, Ohio State senior defensive tackle Michael Bennett, Iowa junior center Austin Blythe, Ohio State sophomore defensive end Joey Bosa, Iowa senior defensive tackle Carl Davis, Nebraska junior defensive end Randy Gregory, Wisconsin senior tackle Rob Havenstein, Rutgers senior guard Kaleb Johnson, Michigan senior linebacker Jake Ryan and Iowa senior tackle Brandon Scherff.
