Langford up for Doak Walker

Michigan State running back one of eight Big Ten candidates on the list

Entering last season, Jeremy Langford had played three positions in his tenure at Michigan State.

With just 23 yards rushing on nine attempts, he found himself back at running back.

More than 1,000 yards later, Langford had a breakout junior campaign and put himself on the Doak Walker Award watch list heading into the 2014 season.

Langford, who ran for 1,422 yards last year and led the Big Ten with 18 rushing touchdowns, is one of eight Big Ten running backs on the list.

The others are Nebraska senior Ameer Abdullah, Penn State senior Bill Belton, Minnesota senior David Cobb, Indiana junior Tevin Coleman, Illinois junior Josh Ferguson, Wisconsin senior Melvin Gordon and Penn State senior Zach Zwinak.

Langford had a string of eight straight 100-yard games that carried from October 12 against Indiana through the Spartans’ win against Ohio State in Indianapolis on December 7.

He also was nominated for the Maxwell Award, given to the top player in college football.
