Michigan State visit stands out for Robertson

Fort Wayne (Ind.) Wayne defensive end took trip to East Lansing on Tuesday and left liking what he saw. Where does it stack up to other visits he has taken and could an offer come soon?

Fort Wayne (Ind.) Wayne junior Auston Robertson has taken visits to many top schools in the Midwest already this summer, but the one he took Tuesday to Michigan State topped the list.

“That is the best college I’ve went to so far,” he said. “I liked it a lot.”

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound defensive end has visited Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State already this summer. He said seeing how the Spartans were competing separated the visit to MSU above the rest.

“I liked how the team all competed during drills and it was just conditioning, but they were all competing,” he said. “I liked the coaching staff, the field and the college overall.”

Robertson also had the chance to talk with a bevy of Michigan State coaches, including strength and conditioning coach Ken Mannie.

“We talked to Coach Mannie, I think that is my favorite coach,” he said. “He was real and said enjoy the process right now, but when the time comes, that’s when it gets real. I talked to the head defensive coach (Pat Narduzzi), the D-line coach (Ron Burton) and while we were there, we just watched the team practice and took a tour and were shown around and they showed us the trophies.”

Narduzzi and Burton talked with him about the way the Spartans use their defensive ends, also something he liked.

“He told me their defensive is simple and they teach their defensive ends just to run all pass rush and you can’t be wrong,” he said. “He was like you can be wrong, but you will end up right. I liked that because I like pass rushing.

”That is something that stuck out to me.”

So far, Robertson has earned offers from Notre Dame, Indiana, Toledo and Akron. He thought Michigan State might join the fold on his visit, but has hopes for one to come soon.

”I think I would have gotten an offer, but I didn’t have any film so I sent them film and they are going to review,” he said. “I would be really excited.”
