Shilique Calhoun has been named to multiple watch lists for the nation’s defensive player of the year, but Friday he was named to the biggest list yet.
The Michigan State defensive end was among 50 players named to the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award watch list.
Calhoun is one of just 17 defensive players on the list – and one of just five defensive linemen.
The reigning Big Ten defensive lineman of the year has been named to the Bronko Nagurski and Bednarik watch lists – given to the nation’s best defensive player – and was on the Lombardi Award list released Monday. The Lombardi award features offensive linemen, defensive linemen and linebackers.
The junior defensive end had 7.5 sacks a season ago and tied for the national lead with three defensive touchdowns.
The Big Ten had eight representatives on the list for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, including Calhoun.
Nebraska running back Ameer Abdullah, Northwestern linebacker Chi Chi Ariguzo, Maryland wide receiver Stefon Diggs, Michigan wide receiver Devin Funchess, Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon, Nebraska defensive end Randy Gregory and Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller made up the other seven.
