B1GMD Storylines: The loaded East Division

As Big Ten Media Days near, the Spartans have a few story lines to watch. We take a closer look. Up next: The loaded East Division which features both Michigan State and Ohio State

With Big Ten Media Days coming up, SpartanDigest is taking a look at the five storylines around Michigan State to pay attention to.

Next up: The loaded East Division

When the news of Maryland and Rutgers joining the Big Ten came about, it became clear new divisions would be part of the deal. Bye bye, Legends and Leaders.

As it happened, the East Division will be much more stacked for the coming years – and probably beyond – with Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Penn State.

It will be a challenge every year for those schools to win the division and go to Indianapolis – presumably – to play in the Big Ten title game.

Even more of a storyline is that Michigan State and Ohio State, the pair of teams that played in an outstanding Big Ten title game last season and are viewed as the frontrunners to win the East Division in the first season of the new-look Big Ten.

Now, the comments in Chicago are somewhat easy to predict. Expect comments about not wanting an easy road, having to beat those teams eventually and being excited to play the top names in the conference year in and year out.

Regardless, it is a topic of conversation as the Big Ten takes on two new members and a new pair of divisions.
