Gaines picks Spartans

Frostproof (Fla.) defensive back chooses Michigan State over Alabama, Auburn, etc

Michigan State has been on a recruiting roll lately and that continued Monday when Kaleel Gaines committed to the Spartans.

The Frostproof (Fla.) defensive back picked the Spartans over offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Florida State, among others.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Gaines gives Michigan State a total of 12 commits in the 2015 class, a number which stood at just seven entering the month of July.

Since then, the Spartans have received verbal commitments from Hubbard (Ohio) running back L.J. Scott, Highland Springs (Va.) wide receiver Felton Davis, West Mesquite (Texas) cornerback Josh Butler and Houston (Texas) Kinkaid offensive lineman Tyler Higby.

They also started the 2016 class with Erial (N.J.) Timber Creek wide receiver Cameron Chambers, who committed Friday.
