Indispensable Spartan No. 7

SpartanDigest takes a look at the most indispensable players for Michigan State this season. As the list grows shorter, we hit the running back that was huge for the Spartans last year.

Jeremy Langford

The Details

Height: 6-foot-1

Weight: 208 pounds

Position: Running back

2013 season

Langford burst on the scene after something lit under him in preseason camp. He entered the year with nine carries for 23 yards, but blew up in 2013. He ran for 1,422 yards on 292 carries with 18 touchdowns, giving the Spartans a workhorse back that carried them through a lot.

Michigan State has had a string of strong running back play in recent years from Javon Ringer to Edwin Baker to Le’Veon Bell and now to Langford. After being a solid performer last year, Langford is looking to take it up to an even higher level. He talked in the spring about wanting to be a more consistent performer from the opening snap until the final one, instead of doing major damage later in the game. If he can be an every down back yet again – teaming with some Nick Hill and Delton Williams – the Spartans are going to be very pleased with their running game for the second straight season.
