Taiwan Jones

The Details

Height: 6-foot-3

Weight: 252 pounds

Position: Linebacker

2013 season

Jones took over as the full-time starter at the STAR linebacker position after splitting with Chris Norman the season before. While the headlines went to Max Bullough and Denicos Allen, Jones had a good year ranking fourth on the team with 67 tackles and seven for a loss.

Jones made the move to MIKE linebacker this spring in a mutual decision with the coaches. Given he brings the most experience by far to the linebacker corps this season, the move made sense. He brings a very physical presence to bash in the middle, but that has never been the question. Jones’ most important test this season will be how well he commands the defense. His offseason had to be spent learning all the positions on the defense and where they belong on each play. As he goes early this year, so will the defense for Michigan State.
