SpartanDigest takes a look at the most indispensable players for Michigan State this season.

Kurtis Drummond

The Details

Height: 6-foot-1

Weight: 202 pounds

Position: Safety

2013 season

Drummond was a first-team All-Big Ten pick by the coaches and a second team pick by the media. He had a career-high 91 tackles and was a consistent presence in the “No Fly Zone.”

Drummond returns as a player who has contributed throughout his career and has a knack for making plays. This time around, he is a captain and the leader of the secondary for Michigan State. He is a long, rangy safety who comes up and hits and is solid in run support, but also reads plays well in the defensive backfield (See his one-handed interception against Western Michigan last season). He will have more pressure on him this season as Isaiah Lewis is no longer back there and Drummond now is the senior safety that others will look to.
