Poljan having big season, taking visits

Lansing Catholic junior quarterback hearing from the entire Big Ten and has an SEC visit planned later this month

Friday nights this fall have seen Lansing Catholic junior quarterback Tony Poljan lead the Cougars to an undefeated season.

That continued this week, as Poljan totaled six touchdowns – four passing and two rushing – as the Cougars took control of their division race with a 50-14 win against Williamston.

“We were able to pass the ball really well with the short yardage and we were able to run it and were all clicking tonight,” he said.

The 6-foot-6, 230-pound junior threw for 405 yards on 19 of 26 passing with 46 rushing yards, having his hand on six of LC’s seven scores.

While his Fridays have been busy on the gridiron, his Saturdays also have been busy as he has been taking visits to colleges.

He has heard from all of the Big Ten schools in some capacity thus far and has taken a trio of visits.

”I have visited Michigan State, Purdue and Notre Dame and I’m going to Auburn on the 25th,” he said.

He first visited the hometown Spartans for their season opener against Jacksonville State.

“I don’t think coaches can start calling me yet,” he said. “They can only talk to me when they are on campus.

”I went to their camp this summer and they liked what they saw.”

The upcoming Auburn visit came about after sending his film to the coaches at one of the top SEC schools.

“I haven’t really talked to the coaches that much right now because it’s during the season,” he said. “I sent them my film down there and they said they watched it.”

Poljan also has visits planned to Northwestern and Boston College.

He also is a standout on the basketball court, having offers from Central Michigan and Toledo.
