On The Trail (October 22)

Could Michigan State get another player from Arizona on campus soon and more recruiting updates as Michigan State prepares for a big visitor weekend.

**Michigan State already has one prospect from Arizona committed in the class with quarterback Brian Lewerke. It is possible the Spartans are not done in the state, though, as Peoria Centennial linebacker Dedrick Young is on the radar.

Young holds a Michigan State offer already, in addition to UCLA, Nebraska and a host of others. Now, the Spartans are hoping to set up an official visit with him. The Ohio State game could be a possibility and it is just a matter of scheduling.

**Michigan State will bring in a big list of visitors for both football and basketball this weekend with Michigan in town. Here are some visitors expected to be in town:

It is possible but not set in stone that a few offers could go out to some of the football visitors. Some possible players to receive an offer are 2015 Chicago DePaul DT Raequan Williams, 2016 Plymouth Canton OL Michael Jordan and 2017 Cass Tech WR Donavon Peoples-Jones.

**Speaking of Lewerke, he suffered a broken index finger on his throwing hand in his game two weeks ago. He stayed in and threw three touchdowns the rest of the way.

According to his father, Lewerke was told he should be out until the playoffs following X-rays. That is not sitting well with him, as this week is the sectional championship for Phoenix Pinnacle. So the Spartans quarterback commit is hoping he can find a way to play through the pain and avoid sitting out.

He did not play last Friday.

**Michigan State extended an offer to Lorain (Ohio) defensive end Rashod Berry on Tuesday. He had been interested in getting an offer from the Spartans and had spoken about his interest in coming to East Lansing, a source said.

Unfortunately for the Spartans, Ohio State also extended an offer to Berry on Tuesday and he committed Wednesday morning.
