The past two weeks have been big on the recruiting front for 2016 linebacker Cameron Brown.
“It was definitely great,” he said. “It feels great to know that I am getting out there and that I can compete with some of the best.”
The 6-foot-5, 200-pound Brown credited the exposure he has gained since transferring to The Bullis School.
”I think a lot of exposure came,” he said. “I did produce a very good highlight tape this year and a lot of coaches are expressing that they like it. And my height, too, coaches are liking that.”
Michigan State became Brown’s sixth offer when he visited for the Spartans’ win against Rutgers on Nov. 22. He said it was big to get the offer, especially being in person to experience it.
”I was happy when I got it after the game,” he said. “I got to spend time with the coaches and see how the coaches interact with the kids and interact with the players.”
He enjoyed seeing the MSU defense shut down Rutgers on the day and liked the fact the MSU coaches wanted him to be a part of it.
”It was just a great experience knowing they are ranked in the Top 10 and they are playing great and play great defense and that I could have a possibility of playing for them,” he said.
The next week, Brown saw Penn State – and Michigan State again – as he visited State College as the two teams closed out their regular seasons.
”I went up to the game and they offered after the game,” Brown said. “It was a sad loss to Michigan State, but it was great to hear what the coaches had to say about how they’re rebuilding and their plans for the future.”
He had the chance to talk with Penn State ehad coach James Franklin afterward even though he was naturally busy.
”He still had a good energy when he was talking to me and everything,” he said. “He was positive about what he was planning to do at the school. Everything coming off was a positive. He didn’t seem down about the game. He knows they have a bright future.”
The latest offer for Brown came from the Fighting Irish, who came by the school Wednesday.
”My coach told me about it,” Brown said. “They had been at the school earlier and I guess they watched my film and he told me when he saw me in the weight room.”
He has yet to be up to South Bend to visit Notre Dame, but his hope to take one in the spring as he was excited by the offer.
“It’s a very prestigious school,” he said. “It was a great to know that I do have that ability to play there. I did kinda look up to Manti Te’o especially because he wears No. 5 as a linebacker. It was great.”
With his height and athleticism, some offers have varied, but most have come at linebacker for Brown.
“Penn State offered as a DE,” he asid. “Michigan State, they don’t know what they offered as if it’s a linebacker or at defensive end yet. They just want me to come. I would be more of a hybrid.
”I believe Notre Dame is offering at outside linebacker, but they didn’t specify. Most have been at outside linebacker, so I would assume they offered there.”
