Pair of Spartans named to the second team by Scout, while Brian Allen earned freshman honors

The pair of cornerbacks that started Michigan State’s season-finale against Penn State received honors from Scout this week.

Junior corner Trae Waynes and senior wide receiver/corner Tony Lippett were named to the Scout All-America second team Wednesday.

Waynes, a first-team All-Big Ten selection by both coaches and media, had three interceptions in the regular season.

Lippett was named the Richter-Howard receiver of the year as the best receiver in the Big Ten. He also was named first-team All-Big Ten by both coaches and media.

He wrapped up the regular season with a Big Ten-leading 11 receiving touchdowns, 1,124 yards receiving and 93.7 yards per game. He finished fourth in the league with 60 receptions.

Lippett made the second team at the athlete position.
