Michigan State getting more healthy

Tests Valentine, Costello show nothing serious, while Bess is "the best that he has been"

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo was concerned about the health of Matt Costello and Denzel Valentine following its win against Northwestern on Sunday.

But test results came back and showed nothing serious with the pair of juniors.

”Costello was fine,” Izzo said. “That was the big one. We were worried about him.

”With Denzel I guess what they found was what they called an ulcer on his throat. That was creating some problems. Looks like he is 90 percent.”

The Spartans also might have the added boost of Branden Dawson without the brace that has been on his left wrist the past few games. Izzo said the senior will get the brace off soon and it could be in time for Saturday’s game at Maryland.

”If not for sure by start of next week,” he said.

On top of that, Izzo said freshman Javon Bess is “the best that he has been” health-wise.

”He’s not back to where he would be, but definitely back to where he can practice,” Izzo said. “I think he has a better comfort level.”
