It has been a busy few months for Khalid Kareem. The Farmington Hills (Mich.) Harrison junior defensive end has seen his offer list expand from coast to coast with the likes of Louisville, Miami and Oregon extending offers.
“It has been a blessing to have those offers,” Kareem said.
On Wednesday, Kareem netted a big offer in his backyard, though, as Michigan State extended one to the in-state prospect.
“I called Coach Burton,” Kareem said. “He had liked me for a while and said he had been watching me for a while now. He had a scholarship offer. …
“First in-state offer, so that felt really good to have.”
The 6-foot-4, 235-pound Kareem was last on campus when the Spartans played Michigan last season.
“It’s a really good program,” Kareem said of MSU. “It’s a family oriented team. They’re an in-state school so I kinda know a lot about them. It’s a really good team and the school is really good too from an educational standpoint.”
He also likes what he sees in Burton, the defensive line coach.
“He really teaches the DL techniques, how to get off the ball and intensity,” Kareem said. “He really gets after his players and I like that.”
Kareem said he holds no early favorites, but has a couple upcoming visits.
“I’m visiting Ohio State on the 25th for their junior day,” he said. “I’m visiting Pitt this Saturday for a basketball game.”
