Hamler enjoys a "hype" Sunday visit to MSU

Orchard Lake St. Mary's sophomore wide receiver holds an early offer from MSU and was back on campus Sunday. He recaps the visit and updates where his recruitment stands.

It took only one half of basketball, but the experience of the Michigan State-Michigan game was a good one for K.J. Hamler.

”It was probably the most hype game I’ve ever been to at Michigan State,” Hamler said. “It was a white out, too, so it was very exciting. It was a good game.”

The 2017 Orchard Lake St. Mary’s wide receiver took in part of the game, as well as parts of the Spartans’ junior day Sunday, before taking off early to avoid getting stuck due to bad weather.

He also arrived a little bit later than planned because of poor road conditions.

“I got there kinda late, so when I got there we were just in the little meeting room with all the players and stuff like that,” he said. “When I got there, they were about to leave to go down to the locker room and look at the gear they are going to get like new cleats, jerseys and gloves. It was pretty sweet.”

At the game, he watched current football players honored at center court with an array of trophies from the past two seasons, while also talking with former MSU receiver Bennie Fowler.

“I was just asking like how does it feel to play with Peyton Manning and stuff like that,” Hamler said. “He was like it’s pretty amazing to play with him and then we were just talking about the Super Bowl.”

Michigan State extended an offer to Hamler last June, one of five current offers.

“Recruitment for me is going by really slow,” he said. “Hopefully, it will start picking up the pace as soon as I hit camps and 7 on 7, so hopefully more will start coming.

”I’m not really hearing from colleges other than Michigan State and my offers.”

Hamler’s other offers are from Cincinnati, Louisville, Ohio and Toledo, but he hopes that camps this summer will lead to more offers.

”I’m trying to go out to California and see what kinda camps are out there this summer and see what kinda competition is out there,” he said.
