Signing Day Capsule: Felton Davis

Highland Spring (Va.) wide receiver addressed a need in the class for Michigan State as a big-bodied wide receiver -- and from a new territory.

Felton Davis – Highland Springs (Va.) Wide Receiver

Height, weight: 6-foot-3, 175 pounds

Commitment Date: July 21, 2014

Why Michigan State: ”It was just something that happened when I got there. It was the coaching staff, the players and the facilities and the academic staff.”

The Skinny

Michigan State broke into new recruiting ground when it landed Davis out of Virginia. He is from the same high school as defensive line coach Ron Burton, which gave him a connection and played a part in his recruitment and eventually commitment.

The Spartans needed wide receivers in this class, so his unexpected commitment on a July visit to campus was a big swing.

Davis is a tall wide receiver that uses his jumping ability and size to his advantage. He is a strong downfield threat and figures to be a contributor in that role down the road.

MSU has a strong group of senior and junior wide receivers on the roster right now, so he won’t be call upon to contribute immediately. A redshirt and time to bulk up more and develop should serve him well as MSU will need Davis and Darrell Stewart in a couple years.
