Tyler Higby – Houston (Texas) Kinkaid Offensive Guard
Height, weight: 6-foot-4, 285 pounds
Commitment Date: July 30, 2014
Why Michigan State: ”With Coach Staten, just the second I walked in the room he seemed high energy and like a really good coach. There was something about him and we really connected right away. He seemed like a really good guy. Same with Coach (Mark) Dantonio. I went in there with my mom and my uncle and one of my friends and we all came out saying he seemed like a great guy. That is how I felt about everyone there.”
Higby was perhaps as surprising as any commit in the class. He came up on a visit while seeing family in Michigan and wound up loving Michigan State and committing.
He was one of three commits from Texas in the class, something unmatched in a long time – if ever. He also had some impressive offers with the likes of LSU in the mix.
Higby, an offensive tackle in high school, figures to be a guard at Michigan State. He is light on his feet despite his size and he uses his upper body well to block. He excels in run blocking, which is one of the things that makes him seem best suited as a guard.
Higby should be lined up for a redshirt.
