Signing Day Capsule: David Dowell

Michigan State made a splash with the tall cornerback late in the process when he flipped from Kentucky to MSU with his brother

David Dowell – Lakewood (Ohio) St Edward Defensive Back/Wide Receiver

Height, weight: 6-foot-2, 180 pounds

Commitment Date: January 28, 2015

Why Michigan State: ”Very excited to join the storied program and work with Coach Dantonio and the rest of the staff.”

The Skinny

Dowell flipped from Kentucky to Michigan State late in the process and was a late offer, but it did not take long to flip.

For MSU, where their interest was clear. Dowell is a tall cornerback prospect that comes from a high-level high school that plays a defense with some similar concepts to Michigan State.

He also plays wide receiver and could wind up on that side of the ball.

If cornerback is the spot, his freshman year should start the same as Josh Butler and Tyson Smith in competing for a spot. At wide receiver, a redshirt would seem almost certain.
