Michigan State hits in Utah with Hunt

Salt Lake City Taylorsville defensive end picks the Spartans after a great visit in January to East Lansing

The theme of the 2015 class seems to have been hitting new territories and Michigan State did that again on signing day.

With recruits from Arizona, Texas and Virginia already in the mix, the Spartans added one from Utah. Salt Lake City Taylorsville defensive end Mufi Hunt picked the Spartans on Wednesday over BYU, Oregon State and others.

The 6-foot-6, 215-pound prospect took an official visit a couple weeks ago and left blown away.

"They really rolled out the red carpet,” Hunt said of his visit to Scout.com’s Doug Kimmel. “I saw Coach Dantonio three separate times that first day and he was so excited I was out there. They've never had a guy from Utah commit to them before and they truly don't even recruit the state. He was telling me that they don't have a recruiting coach in Utah, but they do a great job evaluating and that's how they found me. They were unbelievable host."

Hunt signed his NLI on Wednesday, but will be headed on a two-year Mormon mission, so he is not set to enroll until 2017.
