Jalen Cochran saw his offer list double over the weekend as the Canton (Mich.) linebacker added two more to his list.
“It was a blessing,” Cochran said. “It’s an honor to even have an offer, so I think it was a pretty big deal for me and my family.”
Cochran said the Iowa offer was a bit of a surprise as he had not heard from the Hawkeyes in some time.
”Iowa had been recruiting me in my sophomore year all summer toward the start of my junior year,” he said. “I had one of the coaches come in and talk to me, but it was a surprise they offered me because I hadn’t talked to them in a long time.”
So when he found out last week they would be offering, he was pretty excited to land his first Big Ten offer.
“I know Iowa is a tough school to play for because it’s in the Big Ten conference, so they play some tough teams,” Cochran said. “I have talked to some of the coaches and they are really excited about me. I think it’s exciting to have an offer from Iowa.”
He then paid a visit to nearby Eastern Michigan last weekend and said he had a great time.
”I talked to the coach and he came to the program a couple years ago,” he said. “He is trying to change the program around. I like what he would have to give to me. He said it won’t be easy and it’s a challenge and he was basically challenging me to go there.”
The weekend before visiting Eastern Michigan, Cochran was in East Lansing to visit Michigan State.
“Michigan State was probably the best time I’ve had,” he said. “I went to a basketball game. I talked to the coaches, tried on jerseys and stuff like that. I liked the environment at Michigan State. I talked to Coach Dantonio a little bit and introduced myself. Overall, probably Michigan State, so far, I had the best time there.”
But could the Spartans be one of the next offers for Cochran?
“I know they are highly interested, but I haven’t heard from them since then,” he said.
Next up will be visits to Toledo and Miami (Ohio), while he hopes to set one up with Iowa.
