How did Sills find the Spartans program?
“I really liked what I saw,” said Sills. “They are still under some renovations of their locker room in the indoor, so I didn’t get to see that. But I got a tour of the weight room and indoor facility and all of that. It was all very nice and the stadium is very up close and personal to the field and I really like that. I could definitely see that place being very loud during game.”
Not expecting the Spartans to offer on his first visit, Sills left encouraged that the Spartans will soon be visiting him to watch him workout.
“Coach (Mark) Staten said he’d be in to see me on Wednesday morning,” he said. “I got a chance to speak with him and said he’s excited to get a chance to come down to watch me workout but also explained they are early in the recruiting process with me. He also explained how they work and that if I’m not willing to work on football and academics and it’s not what I love, Michigan State was not the place for me.
“I told him those are definitely two very important things to me as without academics you can’t play football. You can’t really get anywhere in life without working hard as nothing is handed to you.”
According to Sills the atmosphere and people they came in contact were also a big selling point during the visit.
“My dad and mom both went with me and dad said they were both very impressed,” he said. “The people were all very personable and what you see is what you get. They were all very polite and you can see they don’t cut corners as they tell you what is expected and if you’re not willing to live up to those expectations Michigan State is not the place you should be. I can definitely see myself there.”
