MSU Top 28 Difference Makers 2015 Nos. 24-21

Michigan State fans are expecting a lot in 2015 as the Spartans look ready to compete at a high level and win a Big Ten Conference title and play in the College Football Playoff for a chance at a national championship. We begin with a look at players Nos. 24-21.

Here’s my Top 28 Michigan State Spartans by order of importance for the 2015 season. We continue with Nos. 24-21.

NO. 24

Demetrius Cooper – Defensive End – RS Sophomore

The insurance policy along the defensive line will be Cooper as he played enough last season to earn his first letter seeing action in all 13 games. The pressure will not be fully on his shoulders unless there is an injury to Shilique Calhoun. However, he’s important enough to make this list as he should see increased reps when it matters.

NO. 23

Miguel Machado – Offensive Tackle – Redshirt Junior

The former JUCO lineman is a lot like Cooper as Spartan fans hope he’s not needed. However, as MSU fans have learned, injuries along the offensive line happen and Machado may be better prepared to handle the pressure having worked on his game at Pasadena City College. The physical size is there at 6-foot-6, 300-pounds, now the question will be if he’s ready to step in if needed.

NO. 22

Malik McDowell – Nose Tackle – Sophomore

McDowell should take some big steps this fall but should not feel the pressure of having to be the star along the defensive front four. Played in all 13 games last season earning Freshman All-American honors and earning a start against Baylor in the Cotton Bowl.

NO. 21

Jack Allen – Center – 5th Year Senior

A proven commodity, Allen enters the 2015 season with 35 career starts with 30 coming at center. Don’t mistake his placement on this list as unimportant because he’s the center of the Spartans offensive front and a valuable clog. We just have so much confidence in his ability to get the job done we feel others must be placed in front of him.
