Here’s my Top 28 Michigan State Spartans by order of importance for the 2015 season. We continue with Nos. 16 - 14.
Lawrence Thomas – Defensive End – 5-th Year Senior
This should be the season Thomas becomes the star many thought he’d become when he left Detroit (Mich.) Renaissance High School as one of the top prospects in the country. Injuries early in his career and a change in his physical size saw a move to the defensive line where he started all 13 games last season as a nose tackle. Now, Thomas moves out to the edge where he’ll have a chance to show off his athletic ability and post the biggest numbers of his career.
Donavon Clark – Right Offensive Guard – 5-th Year Senior
With 19 career starts at three different positions along the Spartans offensive line, Clark have proven to be a valuable piece of the Spartans success the past three seasons. All the tools are there for Clark to have his best season if he can remain at one position for an entire season.
Tyler O’Connor – Damion Terry – Quarterback – Redshirt Junior / Redshirt Sophomore
With the success of Connor Cook, O’Connor and Terry have yet to show their overall abilities. Limited reps by both may have O’Connor looking like the favorite to be the back-up. However, Terry’s athletic ability could prove valuable if a back-up is needed during the season. Spartan fans hope neither quarterback is pushed into action except when the Spartans have a big advantage in early season games.
R.J. Shelton – Flanker – Junior
With the ability to play receiver or even take a handoff and make a big play, Shelton will be a valuable part of the Spartans offensive attack in 2015. The loss of last season’s leading receivers will leave Connor Cook looking for new go-to guys and Shelton could easily become one of those players.
