Future Michigan State quarterback Messiah deWeaver has never seen a camp he’s not like. Sunday, deWeaver headed to his second The Opening Regional event this time in Columbus despite having already earned an invite to the next level of the Elite 11 quarterback series.
“It’s a good experience to come out here and compete again,” stressed deWeaver. “I’ll be in Los Angles next weekend for the Elite 11 semifinal for the best 30 in the country, so this was another chance to come out here, compete and get better.
“These events are important enough to come out and get better and compete. Also, at the end of the day, I want to dominate the competition.”
Not only is deWeaver working on the field to hone his craft, he’s also working to make the Spartans 2016 recruiting class become one of the best in the country.
“Texting guys and calling them is one thing,” he said. “But when you see a guy in person and can interact with them, it makes them more comfortable with you as a person. That is another reason I come to these events as I want to recruit guys for the class.
“We’re almost done, but we have a good class so far and there were a couple of guys out here I messed with and will see what they say.”
After he returns from LA, deWeaver will head for another fun filled weekend.
“I’ll be at the Sound Mind Sound Body camp,” he said. “They I’ll go over to Michigan State for their camp with most of the other commits in the class. We’re all excited as we’ve been talking and looking forward to getting together and competing.”
