Recently removed from a rampage of verbal commitments, Mark Dantonio and his staff look prepared to accept another high level group of commitments from players out of the Midwest with a focus on restocking the Spartans defense for the future.
FIRST ON THE CLOCK
Things get started Friday with at least one decision being made and possibly a second. Many felt Josh King was all set to give Michigan State his pledge. But has something changed? Thursday the 6-foot-6, 233-pound defensive end out of Hinsdle South High School in Illinois took to Twitter with the following message.
NOT SO FAST SON
Battle Creek (Mich.) Central linebacker Brandon Randle had looked like a solid future Spartan at one time. However, right now, Spartan Digest is not sure the Spartans would take a commitment from the 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker.
Several sources we've heard from said Randle was ready to give his pledge to the Spartans but family may have felt the Green and White was putting a little too much pressure on him making his decision. We've also heard at least one family member would like to see Randle head South. So while we've confirmed there will be no scheduled announcement, movement one way or the other could be seen soon on this front.
LOOKING GOOD AUSTON
Things are really looking good for the Spartans when Fort Wayne (Ill.) Wayne defensive end Auston Robertson makes his announcement Sunday at the RAS Camp in Ft. Wayne. Robertson could give the Spartans their second high level defensive end in the class in a battle that includes Michigan and Notre Dame. Things between MSU and Robertson have been very good for a long time and many would be very surprised if the Spartans are not the pick.
ILLINOIS BEING VERY VERY GOOD TO SPARTANS
The fun looks like it will continue Monday for the Spartans as defensive tackle Naquan Jones is set to make his announcement. The Scout four-star out of Evanston (Ill.) Township is another big body for the Spartans to build around. A Jones commitment would be another big recruiting victory for Dantonio and his staff as Jones was also considering Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State out of the Big Ten.
Also looking to join the fun will be Mike Panasiuk out of Roselle (Ill.) Lake Park High School. Offered on Thursday, Panasiuk's offer could be a sign the Spartans know something we don't with one of the names on this board. It didn't take Panasiuk long to announce he'll be making his decision also on Monday. Right now Scout feels very confident the Spartans are in the driver seat on this one.
