Dawson Drafted By Pelicans Traded To Clippers

Former Michigan State Spartan standout Branden Dawson finally heard his name called when the New Orleans Pelicans selected him with the No. 56 pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. However, Dawson didn't stay a Pelican for very long.

The dream of hearing his named called by NBA commissioner Adam Silver became a reality for former Michigan State standout Branden Dawson.

The former Spartan was selected late in the second round of the 2015 NBA Draft by the New Orleans Pelicans. However, Dawson quickly learned how professional sports work when he was quickly traded to the L.A. Clippers for cash considerations.

Dawson becomes the 16-th Spartan to play for Tom Izzo to be selected in the draft and the 15-th Spartan since the 2000 draft.

“I'm just really at a loss for words. This is a dream come true,” said Dawson, shortly after being selected. “My mind is still racing.

“As the night went on, and other players were selected ahead of me, I never stopped having faith. I was surrounded by family and friends, and they kept telling me to keep the faith.”
