A lot can happen very fast in recruiting and Friday night Powell (Ohio) Olentangy Liberty offensive tackle A.J. Arcuri learned that when a conversation with Michigan State offensive line coach Mark Staten soon turned to a conversation with Spartans head coach Mark Dantonio and an offer being extended.
“So I was talking with Coach (Mark) Staten on Twitter today and he said let's have a call tonight,” said Arcuri. “So I called and he said Michigan State was still really interested in me and that they might have one spot left and it would be between me and possibly two other guys.
“He said I should hold off on committing anywhere else cause he could still see me coming there. So he said there was a possibility that Coach (Mark) Dantonio could want me to call in the next week or so and then it happened tonight.”
What did the Spartans head coach have to say?
“Coach Dantonio said there has been a lot of tale about me and that I had an offer,” he said.
Where do the Spartans stand with Arcuri?
“I like Michigan State,” he said. “It's a very good campus and great football. I visited in the winter for a junior day when they played Michigan and then went up for camp. So I've not really toured the campus outside of the football facilities but we're planning to go up soon to get some academic questions answered. The visit is more for my parents to make sure the academic side is all set up.”
When could the visit happen?
“I'm either going to be visiting this Monday or the following week depending upon our schedules,” he said. “I'm not sure yet, but I would like to get up there as soon as I can.”
