Kodi Kieler Ready For Big Season At MSU

Michigan State junior offensive lineman Kodi Kieler spoke with Spartan Digest one-on-one during the Spartans media day about the upcoming season and the Spartans top ranked offensive line.

Junior offensive lineman Kodi Kieler enters his fourth year in the Michigan State program having already earned two letters on the field playing in 27 career games.

For the Rockwood, Michigan native, this fall is the next step in his progress after starting eight games at right tackle a season ago.

Spartan Digest spoke with Kieler during the Spartans annual media day to learn more about Kieler, the Spartans offensive line and coach Mark Staten.

PRIOR TO MSU: Kieler continues a line of MSU offensive linemen that were not the highest of recruits that are developing into top players. Early in the recruiting process Kieler received offers from Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Toledo, Minnesota and Bowling Green.

Kieler gave his pledge to MSU in August of 2011 and has provided the Spartans with a versatile player having played center, guard and tackle his first couple of seasons in the program.

Prior to last season Kieler worked hard to drop bad weight and put himself in position to become a starter after Connor Kruse went down with an injury. Spartans offensive line coach Mark Staten wasted little time moving Donavon Clark to right guard opening up Kieler to take over the right tackle spot. The end result was solid giving the Spartans the knowledge that Kieler would be a productive starter during the 2015 season and making many feel the Spartans offensive line may well be the best one since Mark Dantonio took over the program.
