Michigan State – WMU Prediction

Opening on the road against a Mid American Conference team is not something often done by Michigan State. But the 2015 season could be one of many changes as the Spartans look to march to a Big Ten Conference title and seeding in the College Football Playoffs. Will the Spartans open the season with a victory? We give our prediction here.

In a unique twist, Michigan State will open up the 2015 season on the road against in-state foe Western Michigan out of the Mid American Conference.

Early in the week, Mark Dantonio talked about the reasons his team had chosen this path.

“It's a little big unusual but we made this decision years ago to try and help the economy in the state of Michigan,” said Dantonio. “Making it a community event, bring commerce to that particular city as opposed to going out of state. So a little big unusual but it also helps prepares us for road games as we move into our season later in the season, as we have some big ones.”

With a Friday night kickoff, Dantonio feels getting a start a day early will help his team transition from practices to the rigors of the season with Oregon set to play in Spartan Stadium next weekend.

“We play late on Friday night, so by the time we get back here it will be late,” he explained. “But obviously you have one more day to rest your body or overcome any potential bugging injury or minor aches and pains.”
