We take our first look at the Michigan State depth chart as the Spartans start getting ready for Central Michigan.

We take our first look at Michigan State as they get ready to play the fourth game of the season against Central Michigan on Saturday in Spartan Stadium.

Saturday brings the final non-conference match-up for Michigan State in 2015.  The Spartans enter play against Central Michigan with a 3-0 record and have already been hit with a few injuries that have caused concern and questions going forward.

Here is our first look at the Spartans as they start prep for Central Michigan.

RIGHT SIDE OF OFFENSIVE LINE

Redshirt junior Benny McGowan received his first career start on Saturday at right guard with Donavon Clark moving out to right tackle.  McGowan is listed as an “OR” starter again on the depth-chart with Clark being the other player listed  Clark is now penciled in as an “OR” starter at right tackle with Miguel Machado as the other player who could see reps.  Spartan Digest expects both McGowan and Machado to get reps Saturday after both had questionable performances against Air Force on Saturday. McGowan had issues getting to his spots on pull plays while Machado struggled in pass-protection.

CAN WE SAY DELTON WILLIAMS IS NOT PLAYING IN 2015?

Can we just say that Delton Williams will not play this season?  Three games down and Williams has not seen reps on the field.  No suspension was listed when he returned, but right now all signs are pointing to no return this season for the running back.

SWEAT A NO-SHOW AGAIN

Almost unnoticed Saturday was the fact redshirt freshman defensive end Montez Sweat was not on the dressed list for the Spartans game against Air Force.  Tuesday, it was announced Sweat had been suspended without giving any details on the reasons for the suspension.

NO #FreeRiley MOVEMENT

Saturday right after the Spartans win over the Falcons a few of Riley Bullough’s teammates put out #FreeRiley on Twitter in support of their teammate for his ejection against the Falcons for targeting.  At this time it looks like Bullough will miss the first half and Shane Jones gets the projected start at MIKE linebacker.  Jones played well Saturday and with the quality of depth the Spartans have at all three linebacker spots, this should not be a concern as a couple of the other backers could slip in at the MIKE position as well.

CANADIAN FLASH GETS SECOND CAREER START

With Vayante Copeland out the rest of the season.  Arjen Colquhoun is projected to get his second career start.  Colquhoun must continue to show improvement or the Spartans will have to look hard at Jermaine Edmondson or move Darian Hicks over.  Also look for freshman David Dowell to get some reps.

SCOTT MOVES UP MORE

It was only a matter of time before we saw freshman running back L.J. Scott listed as an “OR” starter at tailback on the depth chart.  Scott is looking more comfortable in the backfield in all phases of the game and the Spartan coaching staff wants to make sure they keep pushing Madre London.  Both backs struggled against Air Force combining for 63-yards on 28 carries.  Way under what is expected out of them by the coaching staff.
