Saturday's game marks the seventh meeting between Michigan State and Rutgers.  The series is tied 3-3 overall with the Spartans last defeating the Scarlet Knights 45-3 last season in their first match-up since Rutgers joined the Big Ten Conference.

Spartans head coach Mark Dantonio is no stranger to the Scarlet Knights as he went 1-1 against them during his tenure as head coach at the University of Cincinnati.  One of those wins was a 30-11 upset over a seventh-ranked Scarlet Knights team in his final year with the Bearcats during the 2006 season.
